Operators manage through layers: strategy → management → execution. Each layer is an abstraction that insulates the founder from the details of what's actually happening.
The trap: the abstraction leaks in exactly the place that matters. The founder who doesn't talk to customers doesn't know what customers actually want. The founder who doesn't review code doesn't know what's actually shipping.
"Founder mode" is the rejection of professional management norms in favor of staying close to the details across all functions. It works at small scale, breaks at large scale (a founder can't review every line of code at Google). The failure mode is micromanagement.
